THE NEW WEBSITE
We hope you like the look and feel of the new website. It is not complete, and probably never will be, as we intend to go on continually adding interesting articles and information about the Mortimers and the Marches.
Our primary aim has been to get the website up and running as soon as possible and, if you explore, you will find that it gives lots of information about us including:
- what the Society is about and what we do
- relevant bits of news
- notice of forthcoming events and reports of recent events
- special interest groups
- membership information and the opportunity to subscribe online
The site also contains introductory articles about the Mortimers and the Marches for interested visitors to read.
Plans for the Website
Almost all of the information on the website at present is available to all visitors to the site, whether they are members or not. Over the coming months we will be starting to add in an ever-increasing amount of useful and interesting content about the Mortimers and the Marches and this will be accessible to members only.
It will be a high priority to add all the information about castles, churches and so on, that Paul Remfry placed in the Gazetteer section of the old site. This will eventually become part of a broader database of Mortimer places and things, to include tombs, stained glass windows, seals and so on.
We have also begun work on a series of biographical articles about some of the most important people in the story of the Mortimers and the Marches. Written by our members themselves, they are intended as short summaries created from secondary sources and don’t set out to be primary research. We will also be including a section for expert papers on a variety of topics as well as genealogies showing family trees of the Mortimers and others.
To log in to the ‘Members Only’ sections of the website you will need a username and password. The process for setting these up is connected to the membership renewal process and your membership will run for exactly 12 months from when you pay your subscription.
If you have not yet paid your subscription for 2013, go to the Membership page and follow the directions.
If you have already paid your subscription for 2013-14, but don’t yet have a username and password go to the Membership page and follow the instructions
1) Members are encouraged to set up a standing order for their subscription using Paypal. This simplifies things for the Society and can be cancelled at any time.
2) For Joint Memberships, the person completing the subscription form becomes the official subscriber. Other members of the family or group should use the same username and password.
An Appeal for Help
It is inevitable that errors of one kind or another will have crept into this website. We think we’ve checked that the links work OK but there will be typos and missed punctuation. We may even have made factual errors in some of the historical articles. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the subscription software works as it should. If you spot anything that isn’t as it should be, please let us know by choosing Website on the ‘Contact Us’ page
