TOCKENHAM CHURCH

The village of Tockenham in Wiltshire lies just to the east of the A3102 about 10 miles south-west of Swindon.
(grid reference SU 040793 - postcode SN4 7PN)

Tokenham was held by the Mortimers of Wigmore probably from 1075. The vill was first mentioned in a charter of King Ini of Wessex (d726). Mortimer control seems to have ended during the Anarchy (1135-1153).

The church is a simple chancel and nave structure with an early font. Much of the work is said to have been undertaken by Hugh Despenser before his downfall in 1326.
