Apply for an MHS Bursary
Bursaries are of £1,000 plus free membership of the MHS for one year. The number of bursaries offered in a given year may vary. Applications for the 2025 bursary will open in May 2025.
Successful candidates will enter into an agreement with the MHS on how they plan to use the bursary and to report on how the money has been spent. They are also be expected to contribute to the Society by contributing articles for the Mortimer Matters ezine and, if appropriate, submitting an academic essay for the MHS Essay Prize and/or the MHS Journal. If appropriate they will also agree to speak at one or more MHS events to share insights from their work.

Judging Criteria
Students applying for the bursary are expected to show:
- How their research will develop knowledge and understanding of the medieval (1066 to 1536) March of Wales and Marcher lordships, and/or the medieval Mortimers. Their work may cover any aspect of social, religious, linguistic, literary, cultural, artistic, legal or political history.
- The quality of their research plan and how they intend to use the bursary.
