The Mortimer History Society was launched in 2009 with 25 founder members, to provide a focus and forum for all those interested in the medieval Mortimer dynasty and the history of the region of the Welsh Marches that ran from the north-east coast of Wales down to the Severn Estuary, and right across south-Wales to St David’s in what is now Pembrokeshire.

Since 2009, the MHS has rapidly become one of the most dynamic and active societies for people interested in medieval history, particularly focussing on all aspects of life on the Welsh borders including the Marcher Lordships and the Welsh Princes, as well as the exploration of other branches of the medieval Mortimer family. The Society continues to promote a wide interest in this fascinating period of history among a diverse audience including young people, particularly those living in the lands of the Marcher lords. Most of our events are now hybrid ones enabling live attendance online by people from further afield.  As of March 2023 we have a growing membership of over 450 members worldwide.
