MHS Schools Programme

Every year about twelve primary schools in ‘Mortimer Country’ take part in a local history programme devised by MHS. It introduces the students to medieval history and has units about castles; archery, weapons and warfare; heraldry; illuminated letter writing and, of course, the Mortimers. Most of the programme is delivered by the class teachers, with MHS members going into schools to teach them some heraldry and to give hands-on experience of weapons and armour. The highlight come in June when 300 children attend a popular re-enactment day organised by MHS at Ludlow castle.
