The tomb of St Thomas Cantilupe in Hereford Cathedral. Ian Bass writes about Thomas Cantilupe in his paper in Volume 1 of the MHS Journal

The remains of Clun castle. Isabella Mortimer, daughter of Roger Mortimer (d1282) was married to John FitzAlan (d1272), Lord of Clun and Oswestry and ‘de jure’ Earl of Arundel. See the short article about her in Mortimer Matters 26

In Mortimer Matters 30, John Grove writes about Katherine Mortimer (d1369), daughter of Roger Mortimer (d1330) 1st Earl of March. She was married to Thomas Beauchamp (d1369) 11th Earl of Warwick and their joint arms are displayed above their tomb in St Mary’s church in Warwick

Margaret of York (d1503) was a sister of kings Edward IV and Richard III. She became the 3rd wife of Charles the Bold (d1477) Duke of Burgundy. In this illustration Caxton is presenting her with the first book printed in English. See John Grove’s short article in Mortimer Matters 27.

Blanche Mortimer (d1347) was the 12th and final child of Roger Mortimer (d1330) 1st Earl of March. She married Peter de Grandison (d1358) and is buried in a beautiful tomb at Much Marcle in Herefordshire. When work to conserve the monument was begun in 2011, Blanche’s lead-lined coffin was found. See Mortimer Matters 31 for details.

In 2014 a party of MHS members went on a society trip to Ireland. They visited Trim Castle which belonged, successively, to the Lacys, Genevilles and then the Mortimers. A report of the trip is in Mortimer Matters 19

At the Battle of Evesham in 1265 the rebellion of Simon de Montfort was finally crushed. Roger Mortimer (d1282) is credited with personally slaying de Montfort, his bitter enemy. Fladbury is about 4 miles west of Evesham and its church has this remarkable window showing the arms of Mortimer, de Montfort and others involved in the battle. See Mortimer Matters 19
